From 18 years of Legacy to Lakehouse in 18 months

ABSTRACT

How Monash moved from an 18-year-old legacy data analytics solution to a best practice Data Lakehouse.

We replaced a data warehouse, a data lake, 4,500 reports, and years of lost knowledge, with a leading-edge data ecosystem in less than two years.

In addition, we designed and implemented what we consider to be very best practice data governance methods and dealt with the issue of data visibility and change impact. All this while not (I hope) alienating our community, and uplifting the awareness of information hygiene and evidenced-based decision methods.
